A half of the year has been passed. Some has got lost their commitment for the goal they’ve set in the beginning of the year. I observed this phenomenon as common yet unusual thing that might lead to frustration to some people. The goal is there for a direction, it answers what, but doesn’t answering precisely for the how part. That’s a common reason the goal seems unattainable. For me, I never glorify the goal, as the goal itself is useless if we didn’t do whatever need to do. Instead, it is better to focus on building a system. A system that works so well that failing to achieve the goal is almost impossible.

Research

Do some research, especially from someone who have already achieved what we want to achieve. We can look for their experiences in books or through conversations with people around us. Take what’s the thing that might works for us and remove what’s the thing that doesn’t work for us. It’s subjective and personalized.

Block

Breakdown actionable items into block of chunk. The chunk that very easy to do that skipping it is easy as easy if we do it. Then increase the load. Never underestimate compounding effect.

Deliberate Practice

Don’t just do the thing as it is. Doing something over and over again without knowing what it builds is waste of time. Do it deliberately. Know what it builds. Move to the next stair. Repeatable action is needed, it enables the normality within us so that we’re familiar with it. But to achieve the goal, we need to climb the stair one step beyond.

Reflect

Every action that’s done need to be carefully evaluated. This is to answer where we’re good at and where we can improve. To the thing that are good on us, keep it, and to the thing that need to improve, we’ve found something precious what we need to do in the next practice.

I would take some concrete example in the another post. But for now, generic explanation is enough.

And remember, there’s no system is perfect. And it’s okay.
